    new processor

    hello,
    i just bought a new dual core processor becuase i was running a cheap 1.60 celeron. anyways i was wondering when i install it do i need to upgrade my bios? im pretty good with computers this is one thing i do not know. lol i have asked around and i find that alot of people dont know this so maybe someone here will. thanks

    First check what motherboard you have and if it's even compatible. Go on the manufacturer website and just do a bios update. It will keep everything up to date. Last thing you want is to see the message "Can't boot because motherboard is unable to identify processor."

    ok thanks and i already checked that it is compatible but thanks thats what i needed to know

    you will most likely have to flash your bios with the old chip in it.

    usually on the motherboards manufactures website they will have a CPU/Memory compatibility list. check that. Also check the change log for the BIOS, it may include increased CPU support. One word of caution: If you don't need to update the BIOS, don't. there is always a chance you could kill brick the motherboard if something goes wrong.
